Uchronic clock: time guidance based on scents and phases

Humidifier and clock

Uchronic clock is a reimagination of the clock as we know it and a reflection on how we relate to time. It is made up of seven pillars each representing a different phase of the day: wake-up phase, cognitive performance phase, nap phase, physical performance phace, intuitive phase, sleepiness phase and sleep phase.

This clock keeps the humidity in the room at a comfortable healthy whilst releasing scents relating to each phase throughout the day. The scent rosemary is released during the wake-up phase as a way of prompting the brain and body to wake up, and lavendel is released during the sleepiness. This clock is here to promt different phaces without being bound to a strick rutine devided into 24 equal slices.

It was heavily inspired by and the theory behind the phases relies on Helga Schmids book Uchronic Time and her platform urchonia.world and her projectpage ont the research catalouge: An Atemporal Event.

This project was created as part of my internship in the FabLab at Waag futurelab in 2025. The rest of my documentation from this course can be found here.
